Belgium has won the most gold medals at the men’s UCI Road World Championships (31), and the Netherlands the most at the women’s (23). The chart below shows the Road World Championships medals by country for the elite road race and time trial, up to and including 2026.
Italy has won 65 medals (21 gold, 26 silver, 18 bronze) against Belgium’s 64 (31, 17, 16). Together they hold 129 of the 378 men’s medals. Belgium has won an elite men’s gold every year from 2022 to 2026, through Remco Evenepoel: one road race title and four time trial titles.
The Dutch total is 58 of 297 medals (23 gold, 25 silver, 10 bronze). Italy has the most women’s bronze medals (15). Jeannie Longo won nine of France’s 14 women’s golds.
All three of Slovakia’s men’s golds belong to Peter Sagan (2015 to 2017). Brandon McNulty’s win in 2026 was the first for the United States since Lance Armstrong in 1993.
It counts medals, not riders, and gives a road race medal the same weight as a time trial medal. The time trial dates from 1994, and the women’s road race from 1958 (men’s: 1927), so countries have had different numbers of chances.
